The Biz-Blog

A round-up of all the things we find useful, that we would like to share with you. All the things mentioned here we have personally tried, and the majority we use on a regular basis. We hope you find them as useful as we do.

BlackBerry Repetitive Rebooting

If your BlackBerry is stuck in a repetitive rebooting loop, the this is the procedure to fix it. At present, this is the only way of getting out of this loop, but you should be aware that this will wipe all your data from your phone.

If you have BlackBerry Protect installed, you will at least be able to restore your contacts, calendar, tasks, memos, browser bookmarks, texts, password keeper database and network profiles. You won't however be able to restore your BBM contacts.

We take Card Payments

And we give receipts

Seems a bit of a strange thing to say, but we keep getting asked if we accept card payments. We've always accepted card payments, since we understand that's how the majority of our customers like to pay. Perhaps you might not know that we do mobile top-ups too.

And the other questions we keeps getting asked, usually at the same time, can I have a receipt with that. You'll get a reciept from us no matter what you buy, even if you don't want one or don't ask. It's just what we do.

Just a couple of the ways we separate ourselves from the less scrupulous shops

System Tool Malware

There is a spate of fake messages appearing telling you that your machine is infected. Mostly these are from something calling itself System Tool. These are fake messages, and the list of infections are fake. The purpose of these messages is to direct you to a website to collect your credit card details in exchange for removing these infections.

DON'T FALL FOR THIS SCAM. They just want your credit card details, that's all.

Windows Live Mail - Conversation View

I've had 2 customers this week confused by this. The new update to Windows Live Mail turns on the conversation view by default. You'll know if you have this update, as the toolbar across the top will be completely different, it now looks like the Office 2007 / Office 2010 ribbon.

Conversation view groups all the messages to do with a conversation under the most recent one. Whilst this can be useful, some people find it confusing, as it seems that some of their emails have disappeared.

The solution is to turn off the conversation view. Select View from the top toolbar, and click on the Conversations button. The button will expand, revealing an On and Off setting. Simple.

Synchronise files between computers over the net

If you've ever had to work on a document with a colleague in a different location, and had to email it back and forth as each of you makes revisions to it.

If you've ever found yourself working across different computers, say from home one day, from the office the next day, and needed a file that's on the other computer.

If you constantly write everything to USB memory, so you have it at whichever location you're working next.

Then there's a solution called Dropbox. It allows you to synchronise your files online and across your computers automatically in the background, even if the other computers aren't switched on. It will synchronise all the files and subfolders in your dropbox folder up to a 2Gb limit for free. If you need more than 2Gb, you can pay for more space.
